Since the autumn of 2005, the town of Litohoro has been safely protected from floods.  In the Tsoukanara river-bed, located within the residential area of the town, the Municipality of Litohoro implemented an anti-flooding project, through rainwater drainage. The project received funding of 1,032,790 Euro under the ROP of Central Macedonia. Thus, the inhabitants of the town and the neighboring farming areas are now protected from intense rainfall, common in this area during the winter months, due to the particular geographical position of the town.

The exemplary implementation process of the project began with a study describing and proposing a solution to the problem and the incorporation of the project under the ROP of Central Macedonia.  The bidding process followed and the contractor was appointed in November 2004.  The time schedule for implementation of the project was strictly adhered to and in the end the project was completed before schedule (January 2006).

Through the anti-flooding project in Litohoro, the area has been relieved from the threat of rain, the natural environment has been restored, the homes of local people and the income of farmers in the area protected.
